Cottage Industry Terms of Agreement

When you purchase a Sew Liberated sewing pattern, it is licensed for personal and home use only. If you are interested in using Sew Liberated designs for profit in your boutique sewing business, you must do so in accordance with the following terms and conditions. Specifically, you need to purchase a license label for each item produced, and sew or iron it onto the finished item. (See also our Cottage Industry FAQ.)

Meg McElwee is the original designer and copyright owner of the Sew Liberated pattern line. Pattern copyrights held by Meg McElwee are included under the name Sew Liberated hereafter.

Through our Cottage Industry Program, Sew Liberated grants a limited license to purchasers of license labels to produce boutique items from the Sew Liberated pattern line (including books). By participating in the Cottage Industry Program, you expressly consent to be bound by the following terms and conditions:

  1. You will purchase and attach (either by sewing or ironing) a license label for each item produced and offered for sale from a Sew Liberated pattern. If you advertise the item on the Web, you will include a photo of the license tag.
  2. You will not mass produce items based on Sew Liberated designs under this limited license.
  3. You shall not (and shall not permit or assist others to) copy, sell, transfer, publish, distribute, transmit, or permit access to the patterns (by electronic or other means). Thus, in particular, you may not provide an unauthorized copy of a Sew Liberated pattern to your customers.
  4. You may use photos on the website SewLiberated.com to promote your sewing business.
  5. You acknowledge and agree that Sew Liberated and its staff will have no liability in connection with or arising from your use of the patterns whether in contract, warranty, tort (including negligence), product liability or any other form of liability.
  6. The Cottage Industry Partners Program license is non-transferable. This Agreement, and any of the rights and/or obligations under it, cannot be assigned or delegated by you. Any attempted action is prohibited and, if attempted, shall be void and of no effect whatsoever.
  7. This agreement cannot be modified except in writing by Sew Liberated.

By purchasing a license label from Sew Liberated, you expressly acknowledge that you have read this agreement and understand the rights, obligations, terms and conditions contained within it.
