Styling the Nocturne Top

Although the Nocturne Top was designed as part of the Nocturne pajamas set, it is also versatile enough to be worn on its own, as a daytime top. After making a cozy flannel set, I sewed up this sunny yellow double gauze Nocturne top for day to day wear, and added a little hand embroidery because that is just who I am. I altered the ¾ sleeves to give a slight bell sleeve silhouette. Because double gauze is so lightweight it is a great top to transition to Spring and even into Summer. Here are a few ways I’ve been wearing mine, and one way I am planning to wear it once the weather truly warms.

French tuck with high waisted jeans

This is a very classic and easy way to wear any top, but because of the high/low hem, the Nocturne really lends itself to a half tuck in the front. It really lets the Nocturne be the star of the outfit, especially with this bright yellow.

With an Estuary Skirt and clogs

My Estuary Skirt is one of my most worn spring pieces, so of course I had to style it with my Nocturne Top. I love the way the denim blue contrasts with the yellow top, and the way the drapey silhouettes of each piece compliment each other. Adding my trusty clogs, and this a something of a uniform for me.

Tied with shorts with for Summer

It has not yet been warm enough for these white denim shorts, but it soon will be in North Carolina, so I put together this outfit in anticipation of Summer weather. I use a clear hair tie to help secure the knot. I also like this top loose over these or blue denim shorts, and I might even try it over a bathing suit.

Tied over a Stasia Dress

We love a good layering moment here and my Stasia Dress was made for this. I chose to tie my Nocturne Top at the back this time to gather more of the fabric for a smooth front silhouette. Once again a clear hair tie came in handy for keeping everything secure.

The choice of fabric and the way you style it can really change the versatility and look of your Nocturne Top. A soft double gauze, a drapey chambray, or a printed woven are all great options for a daytime version of our favorite pajama top.
