A dress you can throw on and feel confident in no matter where the day takes you or what the season, Greenbrier is a perennial favorite that combines a classic shape with the special details that we love here at Sew Liberated.

The Greenbrier Dress provides a beautiful canvas for color blocking, patchwork, or even embroidery. With positive ease built in, Greenbrier is straightforward to fit, easy to adjust, and lends itself to all kinds of creative hacking, styling, and play.

Greenbrier Dress sewing pattern croquis

The Greenbrier Dress has a self-lined bodice, princess seams, dramatically gathered grown-on sleeves, a high waist with a gathered skirt, and inseam pockets that are anchored in the waist seam.

The skirt has two length options: just below or just above the knee.

View A is an easier sew, with rouleau neck ties. View A’s sleeves are uncuffed, with a straight edge, making them a perfect place to feature textiles with a lace edge or border design.

Fabric for the Greenbrier Dress

For the Greenbrier Dress, we recommend light- to mid-weight woven with moderate drape, like rayon challis, cotton poplin, woven cotton, chambray, viscose, or linen, with no stretch. Cotton poplin is recommended for beginners, for its ease of sewing.

Suggested weight range: 3 oz to 5.5 oz (102 to 190 GSM).

Finished Measurements for the Greenbrier Dress

Shoulder breadth is an important factor, since the Dress is easy fitting but has a neck edge that you want to sit nicely. If you are in between sizes, let your shoulder proportion help you decide which way to go.

For example, if your size is somewhere between a 4 and a 6 in circumference measurements, but you have narrow shoulders, choose the 4.
