The Madrone Pant’s drawstring waist, combined with waist elastic, provides a comfortable and size-fluctuation-friendly fit that can accompany you through many seasons. Topstitched seams give a utility feel, and the hems are finished with an external facing.

The drawstring ties at the center front, peeks out of the channel at the top of the side panels, and is enclosed across the back and side fronts. The front pockets have a curved opening and are set in the seams. The back pockets are set at an angle and provide plenty of room.

Are the Madrone Pants high waisted?

Yes, the Madrone Pants are high waisted and will sit just at your belly button. You can adjust the rise to be lower if you prefer.

What fabric works best for the Madrone Pants?

We recommend cotton/linen blends, lightweight canvas or denim, chambray, or midweight linen or cotton fabric.

What about the drawstring?

The drawstring is an easy and fun detail! You created the openings in the waistband as you go, no buttonholes needed! And you can easily leave them off if you prefer it without the drawstring.

How long are the Madrone Pants?

The Madrone Pants have two inseam lengths: 26” (66 cm) and 28” (71 cm). The intended finished hem length is the ankle.

Are the Madrone Pants beginner friendly?

Yes. Madrone is suitable for adventurous beginners and intermediate sewists. We recommend trying the Chanterelle Pants first, if this is your first time sewing pants.

Standard height of 5’5” (165 cm)

Fabric

We recommend a medium-weight woven fabric that has no stretch. The drape or hand of the fabric will impact the look of the final garment — softer fabrics will fall more gently, and more stable fabrics will emphasize the leg shaping. Some wonderful choices are sandwashed linen or cotton, light canvas, light twill (like Ventana twill), or Essex cotton-linen blend.

Recommended fabrics are opaque, and range in weight from 4.8 oz to 7.9 oz (155 – 268 GSM).
