Missive Bag Pattern

$12.95

The Missive Bag is a subtle accessory, perfect for carrying your phone and keys on small adventures, compact enough to function as a bonus pocket without the bulk of a purse.

With a detachable strap, the Missive Bag can be worn many ways with many outfits. The extra zippered pocket can hold emergency cash or treats for the pup.

The Missive Bag is fully lined, with a sew-in magnetic closure secured in the lining of the Flap and the Front. The curved seams on the front add volume to the bag and feature hand sewn edge stitching. The outer edge of the Flap also features hand sewn edge stitching. There is an internal pocket in the lining with a zippered opening. The Bag has a belt sleeve and D-Rings for two wearing options with the detachable belt.

This bag is a perfect place to use scraps from previous projects or upcycle fabric from an old garment.

The interfacing supports the structure of the bag, and can be increased or decreased based on the structure of the chosen fabrics. Interfacing at least one of the fabric layers is recommended.

Fabric Recommendations

For the outer fabric, we recommend a medium- to heavy-weight woven fabric that has no stretch. Choose a stable fabric like canvas, oiled canvas, waxed canvas, or twill — or other mid- to heavy-weight fabric — with no stretch and a stable weave. Suggested weight: 7 oz to 11 oz (238 to 373 GSM).

The lining fabric should be stable and easy to handle. We suggest quilting cotton — or similar mid-weight fabric — with no stretch and a stable weave. Suggested weight: 4 oz (140 GSM).

Fabric Requirements

The Missive Bag requires 1/4 yard (0.4m) of outer fabric and 1/4 yard (0.4m) of lining fabric.

The Missive Bag also requires 1/2yd (0.5 m) of 44” (112 cm)-wide woven fusible interfacing such as Pellon SF-101 Shape Flex or Wawak’s Profuse Woven Interfacing. (If you are using waxed canvas or oiled canvas as your Main fabric, you will not need to interface the Main fabric)
