Fabric Recommendations
We recommend a medium-weight woven fabric that has no stretch.
The drape or hand of the fabric will impact the look of the final garment. Softer fabrics will fall more gently, and more stable fabrics like linen and cotton will emphasize the leg shaping.
Make sure that your fabric is a bottom-weight, able to support the structure of a zipper opening.
Some wonderful choices are light twill (like Ventana twill), Essex cotton-linen blend, light canvas, or sandwashed plain-weave linen or cotton.
Recommended fabrics are opaque, and range in weight from 6 oz to 8 oz (200 to 271 GSM).
In the photos of her zipper-fly Chanterelle Pants, Meg is wearing pants made from a mid-weight, 100% wool fabric. She intentionally sized thenm up (to an 8, though she measures a size 6), for a looser style.
Fabric requirements
You will need to add 1/4 yd (0.25 m) to the Fabric Requirements listed in the original Chanterelle Pants pattern.
Additional Notions
1/4 yd (0.25 m) of lightweight fusible interfacing, either woven or non-woven. (An average width of interfacing is 20” (0.5 m).)
Zipper, at least this long:
Sizes 0-6: 5.5″ (14 cm)
Sizes 8-14: 6″ (15.25 cm)
Sizes 16-20: 6.5″ (16.5 cm)
Sizes 22-28: 7″ (17.75 cm)
Sizes 30-34: 7.5″ (19 cm)
Two Buttons, 5/8” (16 mm) diameter. You can use sew-in buttons with a shank, regular sew-in buttons and create a thread shank to accommodate the waistband thickness, or jeans buttons.
