Fabric Recommendations

For the outer fabric, we recommend a medium- to heavy-weight woven fabric that has no stretch. Choose a stable fabric like canvas, denim, or twill.

Recommended fabrics are sturdy, opaque, and range in weight from 10 oz to 12 oz (340 – 400 GSM). If you want to use a fabric that is lighter than 10 oz (340 GSM), it’s recommended that you interface all of the main pieces with a woven fusible interfacing such as Pellon SF-101 Shape Flex or Wawak’s Profuse Woven Interfacing.

The lining fabric should be stable and easy to handle. Excellent options are cotton lawn, a stable cotton like shirting, and quilting cotton. Don’t choose a bulkier fabric like flannel, or the bag will be too difficult to sew through the multiple layers.
