Learn to Sew with Knits

New to sewing knits? We have a Learn to Sew course to accompany this pattern. Shaerie and Sophia go through every step of cutting out and sewing your Limestone Leggings and Crop Top with you, from the first shoulder seam to the final ankle hem. It is like having two fun friends sewing with you. Fear knits no more, as you learn the types of stitches to use, the best ways to finish hems, how to insert wide and narrow elastic, and how to fit with negative ease. You have lifetime access to the videos and can revisit them anytime for tips and encouragement. When you sign up for Learn to Sew with Knits you also get access to our online course community. You can meet and chat with other sewists, share projects and inspiration, and get support from our experts.

Fabrics

We recommend using medium- to heavy- weight knit fabrics with 50% stretch and a strong recovery. Our ice dyed and black sets are made with heavy organic cotton jersey, available at EWE Fine Fiber Goods. We recommend this fabric if you want to workout in your Limestone.

Performance knits would also be a great choice for this pattern.

Sophia and Meg’s color-blocked sets are made with Birch Organic Interlock Knit. This is a great beginner fabric with a beautiful palette. It is a good choice if you are planning to use your set for lounging and relaxing. A very similar fabric, available from EWE Fibers, is this Hudson Tencel jersey.

You can find fabric, notions, ice-dyeing supplies, and get your pattern printed at EWE Fine Fiber Goods.

Fitting

Overall, fitting with knits is easier than woven. They are forgiving, and have a little more wiggle room. But fitting for negative ease can take some getting used to!

The finished measurements will be smaller than your body measurements.

Using both finished and body measurements, choose the size that is closest, looking especially at the hip measurement for the leggings and bust for the top. If you are between sizes you can go down a size or grade between them. Grading is a great choice if your hip and waist measurements are more than one size different.

Get Cozy

We hope you sew yourself a cozy pair of Limestone Leggings and matching crop top and wear your one of a kind piece with pride! Learning to sew with knits and gaining the confidence and skill to work with these new fabrics opens up a whole new world of cozy sewing!
