I am not even done with this course and want to share my appreciation for the work you put into its development and to Judith for her knowledge and patience as an educator. After I completed the (lengthy) process of fitting my block, I made an unhacked hinterland with some pricey fabric I had been saving and it fit beautifully . I was able to then go back and alter my ill-fitting original Hinterland (pre-course) so that it works better on my body.

And even better?! My daughter is 6 feet tall and has trouble finding clothes that fit. We found a pattern for a top that she wanted. I was able to make a muslin and go through the process of iterating adjustments for a great fit on her body and then make her final garment. I used the printed resources from this course as well at "The Perfect Fit" book to identify and make the following changes:

- broad back

- full bust without darts

- lengthen bodice

- carve out the front armsyche and blend the curve

I am feeling confident about my ability to adjust patterns to fit.

THANK YOU!

Sew liberated had been on my radar for a number of years, and had with great hope purchased some patterns and even the fabric. .. then life got busy. But when I saw the fit & sew class for the Chanterelle pants I found time and made it a priority. As a life long sewist there are many gaps in my skill set, and confidently altering a pattern to fit the body I have now is a glaring one. I was so impressed with the format of the class and Sharie’s ability to teach in such a way that she hit on all of the small things a newby wouldn’t know while at the same time not dumbing it down so much that a veteran like myself would loose interest. I love my pants so much I even find myself dreaming of laundry day so I can wear them again.

I wasn't sure what to expect from the Learn To Sew Your Clothes Course, but already after the first modules I have gotten information that is invaluable. Simple things that as a self-taught sewer no one ever told me. I look forward to going deeper into the course, and with the knowledge I have gained so far to finally being able to work WITH my sewing machine instead of AGAINST it!

I can't even tell you how much I have enjoyed your courses! My sister and I did the Studio Tunic together and now we are waiting impatiently for the Hinterland. Thank you so much for all your inspiration!

FAQs

Will my course materials expire? Do I get lifetime access?

Yes, with your purchase you get lifetime access to the course videos, other materials, and membership in the private Learn to Sew support group. You also get lifetime access to the downloadable PDF Chanterelle Pants sewing pattern, as well as the PDF Zipper Fly Expansion Pack.

What level of sewist should take this course?

This course is designed for confident beginner to intermediate sewists. The videos take you through every step of fitting and sewing the Chanterelle Pants, and our course community provides support and feedback as you go.

I haven’t taken the previous courses in the Learn to Sew Your Clothes series. Can I take this one?

Yes! If you have previously worked with sewing patterns to make several garments, you should be just fine. In particular, if you want to learn more about fitting, this is a great course for you. If you are completely new to fitting, you would benefit from first taking Fit and Sew Bodices, followed by this course, Fit and Sew Pants. We offer a Master Fitting course bundle which includes both courses at a discounted rate.

If you are brand new to using a sewing machine we recommend you start with Intro to Sewing or Sewing Basics 1. It could also be helpful to take Sewing Basics 2 and Beyond Sewing Basics to learn intermediate sewing and finished techniques. (We have a whole page with details about our carefully-designed Learn to Sew Your Clothes course series.)

When can I start, and how much does it cost?

You can start right away! The cost is $149, which includes the Chanterelle Pants PDF sewing pattern, the Chanterelle Zipper Fly PDF sewing pattern, and printed pattern pieces shipped to you (there may be an extra shipping fee for those outside the US). This price is similar to what you might pay for a comparable in-person class.

How do I get my pattern sheets?

When you sign up for Fit and Sew Pants, your printed pattern sheets are included in your course purchase. We will mail your pattern sheets to your door, and you will be able to access your PDF pattern (which includes your instructions) from your My Account page on Sew Liberated’s website. Downloads do not expire.

How do I know if the patterns will fit me?

We pride ourselves on having an inclusive size range. All of the patterns on the Learn to Sew Your Clothes learning path fit waist measurements up to 52.5” (133 cm) and hip measurements up to 61” (155 cm).

Can I make any view of the Chanterelle Pants?

Instructions for the wide leg, barrel leg, shorts, and zipper fly front are included in the course.

I am nervous about fitting, will I be able to figure it out?

It is normal to be nervous, but Shaerie goes over all the common pants adjustments, and we have fitting guide booklet as a further resource. You will be amazed at how empowering doing your own adjustments feels, and how much of a difference it makes in the wearability of your clothes. You can even apply these adjustments to other patterns.
