T-Shirt Dress Hack: Stay Cool this Summer

Let’s make a T-Shirt Dress! This is a fun and fast hack of our Bedrock Tee pattern. Even if you have never hacked a pattern, this t-shirt dress tutorial is for you. You can use any view of the Bedrock as your starting point. I’ve been wearing mine all month and can’t wait to make another.

Make a T-Shirt Dress!

Take out your supplies – rulers, pattern pieces and extra paper, tape, pencil, and scissors.

Decide on the length you’d like, from the high-point shoulder to hem.

Measure the full hip and add ease if needed.

Add paper and add the length, adding in the hip circumference if needed.

Draw the new side seam and add the hem allowance, making sure to decide if you want a straight or curved hem.

Line up the side seams to match the added length on the back and draw the new side seam

Measure your hemlines, whether they’re straight or curved, and add a notch on the side seam if you’d like.

True up the hemline so it’s a nice, smooth line across the seam.

Now you’ve got your pattern pieces and you are ready to sew up your Bedrock t-shirt dress!

  1. I love this! Just for reference, about how much length did you add? I’ve made 2 bedrock tees already, it’s become my new favorite!

  2. I love this and will have to try it out! May I ask which fabric you used for your version? I’ve been on the hunt for something like that where the stripes are spaced apart from each other.

    1. Thank you! I’ll be honest, this fabric was in my stash for a while so I am not 100% sure. It is definitely a cotton jersey, and I think I got it from Blackbird Fabrics. Lyrical Fabrics, Fluid + Drape, and ISee Fabrics are few other of my favorite online shops.
